What Is A President?
President: The chief executive of the United States serves as both head of state and head of government for the Americans. It is his/her responsibility to oversee the various departments that make up the executive branch of government, in addition to leading the country’s military forces as their commander-in-chief. Throughout history, presidential authority has seen fluctuations; however, ever since the early 20th century, the presidency has been gaining prominence within American politics. This trend continued into the 21st century with some notable expansions under specific administrations such as those led by Franklin D. Roosevelt or George W. Bush. Today, the U.S. president ranks among one of earth’s most powerful political figures— also serving as leader to its sole superpower nation state. Being at helm for a country which boasts world’s largest economy in terms of nominal GDP entitles him/her with enormous influence both within his own domestic territory and on global stage through hard and soft power dynamics alike. In fact, throughout much of recent history (particularly marked by events like Cold War) it was not uncommon to hear U.S. presidents referred to as “The Leader of the Free World.”
